When I Fall in Love by Clint Morey

When I Fall in Love

A self-centered girl's perfect world is turned upside down when she has to care for her less than perfect grandparents while the rest of the family seeks to divide up the estate.

Amy Prescott is just your ordinary, everyday high school senior -- beautiful, brilliant, athletic, able to pick the hunk of her choice, and a scholarship to Harvard nearly in her hands.

Okay, maybe not so ordinary.

She has her life planned out and it's an exciting, adventurous plan. She can hardly wait for the next step. But all those beautiful, perfect plans are put at risk when her grandfather has a stroke and she's forced to care for her grandparents in Montana during Christmas break.

Amy finds her orchestrated world is about to snap. A cantankerous grandfather who doesn't want her help, but needs it because of a stroke. A grandmother who is the sweetest thing ever, but suffers from Alzheimer's. And family members out to protect "their share" of the estate.

As the children seek to solve the "problem," Grandpa, a master cello maker who can no longer do his craft, reluctantly shares with Amy the story of his great adventure - how he met and won the heart of his wife in Vietnam.

It's a nice story but Amy has more immediate concerns. Is her boyfriend dating someone else when she's not around? How can she fend off the Montana boy who has taken an interest in her? And then there's that Harvard thing.

Amy doesn't need any of this. Not now. Her life is planned. It's a perfect plan.

At least it was.

When Angels Fly by S. Jackson with A. Raymond

When Angels Fly

We often find ourselves daydreaming about what our futures will be like. This may be especially true if one lives in an environment most would consider less than desirable. Some are lucky to find their futures much like their childhood dreams. Others find the paths to their dreams strewn with hurdles.

Growing up, Sarah dodged her mother's blows. She often hid in her room crying about her life. Still, she believes in her future and the happiness it can bring. In their book, When Angels Fly, authors S. Jackson and A. Raymond tell Sarah's story - their stories. The authors use their journals to describe Sarah's experiences of family dysfunction, strength, courage, faith, abuse, grief, and so much more. You'll read how, like many, she attempts to escape from her mother's abuse through marriage. And like many, she learns it is not a viable alternative. Then Sarah experiences a parent's ultimate tragedy twice, the deaths of her sons, Joshua and Eli.

When Angels Fly is about much more than the telling of a family's tragedy. It is also the story of finding faith after it has wavered. Most of all, it's a story of love lost and found.

Rave reviews!
After reading When Angels Fly, I realized how fortunate I am that my two children are alive and well. ~ J. Thayer McKinney, author, Haunting of LaBelle
I can honestly say that no book that I have read in recent times has had the emotional impact on me that this book has had. I rode right alongside this mother from the first diagnosis of her child's illness, right through to the conclusion. Even before her child's illness, I had to keep asking myself; are there really parents out there who treat their children as horrifically as this woman's mother and her family had treated her? She went from an abused child, to a loveless marriage filled with physical, mental and sexual abuse, to losing her first child to a stillborn birth and then finally reaping the rewards with two beautiful young boys. Then little Eli was struck down with cancer. We follow his journey, step by step as the young mother attempts to keep her sanity, split her time between one child in hospital and one 250 miles away. You can feel her anguish and pain. The very people who should have been helping to ease her burden; her mother, her siblings and her soon to be ex-husband were so busy plotting and planning on how they could benefit from this turn of events, she was left to struggle along with support only from some special friends.
This book is a harrowing read, make no mistake, but it is also incredibly rewarding. To anyone who has ever complained about how hard their life is - I say; read "When Angels Fly". To anyone who has ever said their life sucked - I say; read "When Angels Fly". The courage, fortitude and the immense challenges that this woman and her beautiful son faced, you can't help but be uplifted and reminded just how much we all have to be grateful for.
The book is in a large part a daily journal of Eli's time in hospital and I totally understand the need the author felt to document every day - every day with her son was so very precious. The writing style was at times slightly hard to read, but nothing can take away from the powerful impact it had on me as a reader. I was truly moved by and genuinely felt everything this poor woman had to endure... mostly alone. Any other book that had these editorial issues would have only garnered four stars from me, but there's no way I could not give this five stars. The memories of Sarah, Noah and Eli will live in my memory well after I've consigned this book to the "read" shelf. I feel privileged to have shared Sarah's harrowing journey. When Angels Fly does exactly what it sets out to do I believe - it reminds us that "There but for the grace of God, go I". I recommend this book to all.... it will make you cry, but it will also uplift you. Well done.

About S. Jackson and A. Raymond

I grew up in a small Kansas (USA) town and I lived in more than one state since then. At this time, my husband and I split our time between Kansas and Colorado (we love the mountains and off road 4-wheeling). Traveling is one of our most favorite things to do and I always have a book or even three books that I read, in the same week. Books were really my thing. It seemed like every time I turned around I was obtaining a new library card due to the current one being stamped complete. Diving into a good book made any day perfect and you would be surprised at the number of books I read over and over. I drew paper dolls and clothes for them, and using watercolor as my medium when painting scenes, especially flowers. I continued with art in high school exploring a wide variety of arts and I loved it! The creative side of me loves to be an amateur "shutter-bug" and we actually have an online art gallery. In college I went into the sciences of all things and received a Bachelor's degree in the Science of Nursing. My nursing career was highly successful and I hung up my nursing hat in December 2012.

S. Jackson is a retired registered nurse; a member of the Catholic Church, and has taught kindergarten Catechism; she has worked in various capacities for The American Cancer Society, March of Dimes, Cub and Boy Scouts, (son, Noah, is an Eagle Scout), and sponsored trips for high school children music. She loves all forms of art but mostly focuses on the visual arts; such as amateur photography, traditional, and graphic art as her health allows.

A. Raymond is a member of the Catholic Church, and has helped his wife with The American Cancer Society, March of Dimes, Cub and Boy Scouts, and sponsored children alongside his wife on music trips. He devotes his spare time to fishing, reading, playing poker, Jeeping, and travel adventures with his wife. Both love spending time with their grandson, Austin.

#BookTour Unexpected (Short Stories From Around the World) by P.F. Citizen One

unexpectedtour-banner

screen-shot-2016-10-26-at-7-11-05-pmA series of short, true life stories, which are the product of the travels and observations of one man. The stories are a miscellaneous collection of the funny and sad, of tragedy, love and friendship. And they are all, in a way, unexpected.

Unexpected takes you on a journey from a Brazilian working on the oil rigs of Venezuela, who gets the shock of his life, to the uplifting story of a Chinese beggar living on the streets, entertaining passers-by with his songs and surviving through the mercy and kindness of others.

There is a story for each of us in this book. Each one is subtly different and each carries either a message of hope for lost, or of caution for the unwary.

Unexpected is just that. Just as life is and just as the course of our lives run, at times unexpectedly.

Paris Kisses and Christmas Wishes by Linda West

Paris Kisses and Christmas Wishes

Funny, engaging, heartwarming and unique! You will love this story from beginning to end! Humorous, clean and wholesome, this love story is filled with tender moments and hilarious events all centered around the Christmas obsessed town of Kissing Bridge Mountain.

Kat O’Hara is an author that can’t write. Her excuse for why she is not finishing her opus, is because she needs to visit Paris first, so the ending of her book which is set there, can then be authentic. It's a perfect excuse for the girl that lives in denial. Kat works as a waitress on Kissing Bridge Mountain where everyone is obsessed with Christmas and happily ever after. Kat's tons of fun, especially since she’s gained thirty pounds after her longterm boyfriend left on his internship. Between trying to dupe her boyfriend into marrying her and hiding her true self on Skype, Kat laments her lack of passion and drive.

When Kat agrees to teach the Adult School Diet Class, despite the fact that she herself is thirty pounds overweight, she meets an international visitor from India that challenges her way of life. Together they form a pact to lose the weight they each want to lose to achieve their goals.

Kat is a super funny, easy going white trash girl. She is also slightly mentally challenged and a heck of a beer drinker.

Raj is a blue blood aristocrat snob fleeing the bonds of his responsibilities in India, and his arranged marriage to a woman he barely knows.

Along the way the unlikely couple forms an undeniable bond that connects them against all odds.

When Kat’s love life breaks apart, she learns that sometimes the things you are looking for are not always where you think.

A side splittingly funny, heartwarming, and delightful read! I laughed so hard my husband kept asking me what I was reading. The inhabitants of Kissing Bridge are adorable. I wish I could give it 10 stars!”

Mindfulness Mandalas: An Adult Colouring Book by Kimberly-Ann Debling

Mindfulness Mandalas

Art therapy to reduce stress, remain calm, truly relax & create art. Adult Colouring Books have recently become popular for good reason - they allow us to take a moment to be calm, still and relaxed. In today's stressful world this is more important than ever! Mandalas have long been used as a method of meditation and as a symbol of wholeness. They are pleasingly symmetrical and contain both complex and simple shapes to focus on. In Mindfulness Mandalas! An Adult Colouring Book there are 12 mandalas paired with little phrases to help you focus on yourself and your life. Each page is blank on the back and has room to cut the page from the spine so that you can frame your completed artwork. Remember... You don't have to stay within the lines!

About Kimberly-Ann Debling

1. I'm currently 37 weeks pregnant and during my pregnancy, I was diagnosed with cancer. I realised that even though I'm now in a hugely stressful situation I had been more stressed and anxious in the past under less 'socially valid' reasons!

It made me really think about the way we deal with stress and how creativity helps so much. I feel that any creative pursuit is sometimes hard unless we're naturally good at it, or have practiced since childhood. Don't sing unless you have a good voice, don't paint unless you're an artist, don't woodwork unless you create sellable items, don't play an instrument unless you're stage-worthy! At what age do we tell kids that its not right to do creative things unless they're already a pro?!

I've always been interested in stress-relieving activities due to my previous life as an Air Traffic Controller, so I wanted to combine a few things that I've always loved to bring myself calmness - art and mindfulness.

2. My art journey has always tended towards the 'design' end of the spectrum. I'm passionate about packaging design (someone has to be)! But a lot of my joy was creating surface pattern and computer-drawn vector designs to include within the graphical elements. I just love how a beautiful pattern in combination with great typography, a barcode, and an ingredients list can become a real physical item that gets on shelves and in customers' hands!

3. My book is deliberately simple, but the things that make it a little different from your average adult colouring book are:
     - it is not too thick that it is overwhelming - there's actually a good chance that you will finish all the pages. I always feel a sense of waste when I see too many un-coloured pages!
     - it is printed on one side only so that if you use pens the bleed through doesn't ruin the next page, my medium of choice for colouring is often alcohol based pens so this was a huge factor for me.
     - each page consists of a mandala plus a mindful phrase or saying to focus on. I wanted there to be a definite focus so that the 'mindful' part of the colouring has a special place for each page.

4. I'm obviously in awe of some of the more famous colouring book artists, but I also love Lichtenstein, Mucha and Dali. Mucha is probably my most obvious influence. I'm working on another book which will be a coulour-in diary but this time hand-drawn, I can see lots of Mucha-inspired elements creeping in!

5. I have a Midori style notebook/diary system and one of my inserts is devoted to notes and sketches. I sketch all the time but often away from home so most of my sketches are in biro! I rarely refine the sketches as I work directly on the computer either in vector or bitmap form. I love that if something doesn't work I can shift around elements to play with different arrangements. I get very obsessive so I often have to tell myself to just stop! I love working with clients and I make it clear to them that all feedback is positive. I usually love the finished design after feedback much more than the initial drafts.

6. How has the cancer affected your life? Actually, I really feel that being diagnosed with cancer has improved my life dramatically. It sounds crazy I know. For 5 weeks or so I had no details so became really introspective about so many things. My own mortality, the way I feel about life, how I feel about my husband, the kind of parent I want(ed) to be to my child. I was put into the very best care and when the doctor told my husband and I that my prognosis was excellent and that I would be treated with light therapy (essentially I have fancy sunbed sessions twice a week) we felt like we'd won the lottery. Before all this I was your standard person who had ups and downs and rushed through life either doing too much or wasting time. Now I really do enjoy every moment and no longer tell myself that its 'rushed' or 'wasted'. My husband and I are so much stronger in our relationship. I work with clients better. Even my designs seem better to me now that I don't critique myself so much! I'm so much happier now that I could cry - those 'silver linings' really do exist.

Read an excerpt:
The change will come when your vision overshadows the force which keeps you from moving forward and changing. When the vision for your life is greater than your momentary desires, you will change. You have spent your life acting on your desires, make your vision, your desire, and you will act on it. The thing is to allow that vision to grow, to plant it within and water it. A vision for a better life, to see things new, to cast off the things which entangle.

The goal is to come to believe so firmly in the vision. Don't get down on yourself. Don't focus on the moment whether you happen to think you are doing well or not doing so good, set it aside. Keep building the vision within you and you will naturally and comfortably make the small changes which bring about significant changes. If you create the view for yourself, your actions will follow. You will increasingly not want to do things which jeopardize your vision. It is all a matter of time, it is inevitable, your desire will burn inside you. Fuel the flame and you will achieve what you believe. Don't look at where you are at the moment it doesn't matter, look rather to where you are going.

Nurture within you the best vision for your life; your mind can imagine. Imagine how it will feel to be on this journey. Make it increasingly clear within your mind's eye. Imagine how it will be to love and to be loved; to have joy and peace and real lasting happiness. To have self-control and determination, to not judge yourself or others, to have a real purpose and meaning in your life. To feel confident and truly believe in the things you hold dearest to your heart. To extinguish all the flaming darts life throws at you. To have a growing faith which shines. Dream; the universe is open to you.

Remember when you were a child, and you couldn't wait for the next day. When you woke, you jumped out of bed and ran to do the thing you wanted to do. Wouldn't it be great even to have a portion of it back into your life, where you look forward to where your life is going? Life can beat you down to the point you feel stuck. Where you feel nothing will ever change. Envision a new life, one in which the possibilities are endless, and you have it within you to grab hold of it and make it yours. Open your eyes wide, take a deep breath, watch the sunrise on a new day, smile, you will renew your strength. You will mount up with wings like eagles. You will run and not get tired; you will walk and not grow weary. Isaiah 40:31

Draw Closer to God and Walk in Victory

This book is a collection of scriptures that have provided encourage-ment and strength to me throughout the years. This 52-week devotional was written to encourage readers to spend time mediating and praying over scripture to strengthen their faith. I found that I needed to focus on one scripture each week in order to deepen my understanding of the word of God. Through these scriptures, I have found answers and peace in the midst of challenging situations. Each devotional has a scripture reading assignment as well as a prayer to focus on for the week and apply it to your life. I pray that this devotional will help you grow and experience victory in all areas of your life.

Read an excerpt:
John was also tall. I remember the first time we met. We arranged to meet at a local Italian restaurant. He arrived 15 minutes early so he was already seated when I arrived. He came to the hostess station to meet me and I marveled at the presence of his physique in his tan-colored jacket and turtleneck sweater. As our evening started winding down, I stepped away from the table and returned to find that John was not at the table. ‘Had I been gone too long?’ I wondered. Was I gone so long that he thought that I had left the restaurant? Time can be fleeting but I didn’t have the sense that too much time had passed.
After a moment or two John returned to the table with a guy who turned out to be the floor manager. As it turned out, John had arrived at the restaurant without his wallet and he lived one hour away. He was so embarrassed. Here he was on a first date at a very nice restaurant with no cash or credit cards. Of course he did not want to ask me, his date, to cover the expenses of our first date. What kind of first impression would that make? So during his absence from the table he was making arrangements to pay. Luckily, a checkbook was in the inside pocket of his jacket.
This eventful evening lead to a second, third and fourth date. John was the consummate gentleman always opening doors, pulling out chairs, holding hands and catering to my desires. Did I mention that he loved to cook? His face would light up at the thought of grilling, baking or preparing a meal.
We met in April and that May he was surprising me with a beautiful flowerbed and stone walkway, for Mother’s Day.

Meet Molly Jebber, author of Change of Heart

Molly Jebber is the author of CHANGE OF HEART, an Amish historical romance. Rated third on Publisher’s Weekly best reads list. She’s received widespread media coverage for her speaking engagements talking about the Amish, and providing events for writers on writing, marketing, and publishing throughout the U.S. Check her website for where she’ll be next. Her books have received widespread media coverage throughout the U.S., as well as her speaking engagements.

What started you on your writing journey?
My childhood imaginary friends, Bugs and Debbie. As an only child before my brother was born, Bugs was my little companion who got the blame for all the things I did wrong, and Debbie got all the credit for the things I did good. Mom laughed at my imaginary friends. Dad was a little worried about me. They were relieved when Bugs and Debbie went by the wayside when my brother, Mitch was born! With my imagination, my friends and family encouraged me to write, and I’ve always wanted to.

Has some place you have traveled inspired something in your writing?
I love visiting Amish towns and learning from them. They inspire me with their strong belief in God and focus on Him. I find their way of life fascinating. I enjoy shopping in their stores and seeing their handiwork. The quilts and other dry goods are beautiful.
What distracts you from writing the easiest?

My husband, Ed, suggesting we go to dinner or a movie. My daughter, Misty or my friends wanting me to go to lunch for a good gab session, movie, swimming or beach. Or reading a book from one of my favorite authors.

What kind of books do you enjoy reading? (Book recommendations very welcome!)
Devotional, Romance and Mysteries – I loved “Breathing on Her Own” by Rebecca Waters
Which character in your new release most interested you while you wrote? Why?
Becca – She’s kind, but speaks her mind. She’s got a large birthmark on her hand, but she doesn’t let it define her. She loves God and appreciates her Amish upbringing, but she struggles with how to react when she’s faced with difficult people and harrowing situations.

Yet the pull of first love is strong and deep, especially when Noah returns.
