Chapter Seven Hippopotamus

HIPPO WAS THE FIRST TO open the door to what I could be, something that has made me more connected to my higher self than I ever thought possible. After Dr. Jeri Ryan had helped me communicate with my dog Joey, I took her animal communication class and Hippo was the first one that I connected with telepathically. I can still vividly remember how I felt when I tuned in to Hippo. It felt completely different from speaking to a human or even daydreaming. I was connected to something outside myself that I didn’t even know was there but that felt instantly familiar. It felt more real and genuine than most of the conversations I’ve had with humans. It felt clear, honest, kind, and deeper than what I was used to with most humans. And it happened in a matter of minutes, not months or years of building trust. While Joey was the catalyst to bring me to this moment, Hippo was the one who I listened to for the first time and who opened my heart to more awareness of this new path.

Love Has No Limits by Armine Papouchian

Sometimes it's not easy to keep faith in yourself in spite of all that life throws at you. Armine Papouchian shares her story, hoping to uplift you and inspire you to keep on going. Read an excerpt and then download your own copy. Be sure to follow the tour for even more. Best of luck in the giveaway!

At sixteen, Armine fell in love for the first time and lost that love for the first time. She was the youngest daughter of three in Armenia and the only one underage when her parents decided to immigrate to the United States. She had to go with and leave her beloved Alex behind. Her parents saw a land of opportunity while Armine saw heartbreak. It wasn’t the end of her story with Alex and certainly not the end of her life,as it had felt at the time, but there was more pain to follow. Sixteen-year-olds are resilient, but even when losses and hurt came calling repeatedly throughout Armine’s life, she had the strength to love and to rise again and again. Even as life moves on for Armine and Alex, their lives intersect again and again over the course of thirty years. Through deaths and divorces, their lives never quite line up from their opposite sides of the globe. Love Has No Limits is Armine’s story of keeping faith in oneself and in love despite heartbreak, betrayal, and loss. It reveals the joy available to those who rise and rise again.

Read an excerpt:

Throughout the early ’80s, I had been dating here and there, some longer relationships than others but I wasn’t feeling the connection I was looking for with anyone. There was Ed, who was Armenian and went to USC studying engineering and seemed like a nice guy, but did not seem to have a backbone to stand up to his parents. His parents did not take my education very seriously and expected that once we got married, which we were not even discussing, I would be staying home and keeping myself busy like his mom did by raising children, being a “good” wife, socializing, shopping, making myself look good and whatever else she did. That choice certainly worked for some people, but it was not going to be my choice. Then there was John whom I met in college, an engineering major and he was a very nice guy, a gentleman, treated me with respect but we didn’t really have any common interests. Then there was Nick who was a Levitz customer; he had been stationed in Germany for a while and now he was an electrical engineer.

He was also nice and very handsome, but again, not a very interesting person. I was realizing that although many of the guys I was meeting were nice, educated and polite, none of them had a wide range of interests, had read any classical literature, or knew anything about art, poetry or classical music, nor did they have the wanderlust of wanting to experience life’s many pleasures or travel. Then I met Richard at Levitz.

A Gateway to Hope
(Hope Series #1)
By E. C. Jackson
Christian Contemporary Romance
Hardcover, Paperback & ebook, 297 Pages
May 20, 2015

Twenty-one-year-old Neka is a bit of an introvert, she also happens to be stunningly beautiful.

When she discovers her friend James is about to be dumped, she sees the perfect opportunity to escape from her quiet life. Can she summon the courage to leave it all behind?

James Copley comes from a ruthless family. It’s rubbed off.

Years ago, he disengaged from his brother’s smear campaign, but now his father has offered him an ultimatum, “Get married or lose your seat at the table.”

Plotting to stamp his design on the family business, he proposes to a woman, even though he doesn’t love her.

But his carefully laid plans start to unravel when she leaves him on the day she’s due to meet his family.

Could years of planning his comeback vanish with her departure?

A possible solution comes in an unexpected form: Neka. She’s not only a friend, but the daughter of his benefactor. And she’s right there, offering to support him.

But will her support stretch to marriage?

He attempts to win her over to his plan but collides with her powerful father who wants to leverage the situation for his own gain.

In their fight for survival and love, they are forced to face some uncomfortable truths.

Can they overcome thwarted dreams and missed chances to find true love, or does forcing destiny’s hand only lead to misery?

**My thoughts**
This book reminded me a lot of a soap opera, only without all of the sex and debauchery and a strong tie to the characters' faiths. After all, you have an almost arranged marriage being forced onto James in order for him to maintain his stake in the family company. Neka is already in love with James, but he has only thought of her as a friend thus far. He is the one who has a lot of money and enjoys using it to "shape" his future wife. She is merely 21 years old and seems quite naive and like she has been sheltered from a lot in her life. And then there is all of the interference from their families. I almost flashed back to Dallas in a way. But again, much "cleaner."

I felt a little confused at the beginning because I was having a hard time understanding all of the connections between the characters, but eventually that was sorted out. It did remind me of a TV show in a way, so that would definitely work in that format. It's definitely a different kind of contemporary romance!

I received a requested review copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

About the Author

E. C. Jackson began her writing career with the full-length play Pajama Party. Thirty-one years later, she adapted the play into Pajama Party: The Story, a companion book to the second book in the five-book standalone Hope series.

Jackson’s favorite pastime is reading fiction. She enjoys taking the journey along with the characters in the books. That also led to her unorthodox approach to story writing. Her vision for each book she writes is to immerse readers into the storyline so they become connected with each character.

“The Write Way: A Real Slice of Life” is the slogan on her website and Facebook author page. She feels that if every person reading her books feels connected to the characters, her job is done.
