The Heart Knows What the Mind Cannot See by Toby Negus

Today we welcome author Toby Negus to Uplifting Reads. He shares with us an excerpt from The Heart Knows What the Mind Cannot See as well as advice he would give his younger writing self. Be sure to follow the tour after you download your own copy. Best of luck in the giveaway!

This is a thought-provoking and enlightening exploration of spirituality and perception. The text functions as a guide to self-improvement, with a mixture of autobiographical elements and snippets of universal wisdom. The speaker provides accessible solutions to life’s difficulties, and an outlook of optimism applicable to any circumstance. The illustrations and graphics are thoughtfully chosen, and the interactive textual elements give this work an originality that sets it apart. The speaker’s own experiences and conclusions are at the heart of this fiction, and the first person narrative voice creates a sense of proximity between author and reader. The text describes itself as ‘a journey to the heart’, and this truthful discovery of the self is reflected in the speaker’s revelation of his whole self through the text. The narrative often presents a dichotomy between positive and negative outlooks or voices.

For example, the speaker includes sections in which his self-doubt speaks, ‘you’ve got no proper education, you can’t spell properly, you’re dyslexic and your grammar is crap. You’re not really a writer’. This negative voice directly opposes the sense of self-belief the speaker builds within the narrative. He uses examples such as this to remind readers that the journey to happiness is complex and that flaws or setbacks are natural. The negative separation or fragmentation of the self is prevalent in the lines, ‘I do not love the grumpy me, the sad me, the hostile me, the parts of me that act as if I do not care’. The act of writing represents a unification of the self and an attempt to reframe the speaker’s life into coherence. The frequent use of direct address and rhetorical questions promotes an active reading experience, in which the author opens up a dialogue with the reader. The text includes prompts and activities for the reader to engage with and learn from. Encouraging readers to take part in the text is emblematic of their journey to self-fulfillment and love, in which they must take responsibility for actively creating their own happiness.

The speaker depicts his process of enlightenment as a framework for others to emulate, and the format of the text demonstrates the transfer of agency to those who take part in the speaker’s challenges at the end of each chapter. This work ultimately teaches us that ‘we are the cause of what is’ and thus sheds light on the crucial idea that every individual has the power to create themselves and their world positively.

Read an excerpt:
A song without heart carries no life.

It is from the heart that comes so many defining qualities of love and the human adventure of life. It is the source of our abiding happiness, because the wish of the heart is for our happiness. It knows what is best for us because it knows us intimately. Within its chamber lives our loves, hopes, and our dreams.

The heart is the source of all the world’s greatness. It can pull star dreams to earth, for the heart has created all the wonders of the world, all the gifts of humanity and all the songs of love. It is the home of an innocence, a wise innocence that dispels the cynicism I hold in myself and of myself.

It is the place of our truth, not the truth of yesterday or tomorrow that my mind struggles to know, but the truth of the moment, the living truth. And when I allow it, it is a cathedral of light, a library of illumined text that describes the union of my heaven and earth. Its call has the power to move mountains or create the gentlest touch of love. It is the artist within, the writer of meanings, and the manifestor of dreams.

Although we live in a world of this-and-that, there is within the heart the dreams of forever and memories of the infinite.

If you could tell your younger writing self anything, what would it be?

You are going on a journey to heal the heart and free the mind. It is a journey of remembering the truth of who you already are.

Q: What should I pack for the journey?

The heart, openness and passion. Openness because the journey cannot be what you expect. The heart because it holds the purpose and the light. Passion because it opens the gates of your mind.

Q: Who will I meet on the way?

You will only meet one person, but they will have a thousand faces. Be kind to them all for they are you.

Q: What the weather will be like on the journey?

There will be sunny days that will warm the soul and days that you may never have wished for. But after they have passed, they will be thanked for the light that they gave.

Q: What will I be doing on the journey?

You will craft beautiful gems from your passion of life. Some will be crafted in the dark, others in the light, all will shine, all will bring light to the world.

Q: What will I get from the journey?

You will remember more of who you really are. And as this sense grows so will the compassion that you feel for yourself. This compassion will, in time, be given to all that you see.

Q: What are the pitfalls that I may encounter?

The only pitfall is love’s opposite, fear. It will have many guises but they will all have the same purpose, to close the heart.

Q: What is a good reminder for the journey?

Remember that you are not a human learning to be spiritual but a spirit learning to be human. There is a difference: one embraces humanity, the other does not.

Advice about the Heart

Be not timid with your love for no great life ever happened without it.

The heart is the source of all heroic deeds and all the lights of the world, for all great achievements are born from an idea of love. Without love, hope has no home, courage no direction, and fortitude no purpose.

It is why we dance and why we give. It brings meaning to life for without love there is no colour, no passion, and no joy. Its presence can sustain us through the darkest hours, the wildest storms and can give comfort in the loneliest of times. It calms the troubled mind, mends the broken heart, and brings home the wandering soul. It is a bond that can bring a nation together, a family together and its presence holds our self together. It gives strength for a leap of faith, a trust in life, a wish for tomorrow and a living of the day.

Love is why we live.

They Shall Dream Dreams: Prophetic Dreams in the 21st Century by Dianne Latham Ferguson with June Saunders

They Shall Dream Dreams

Have you ever had recurring dreams that were so vivid that you were surprised to wake up and find that you'd only been dreaming?
Not unusual. Recurring dreams are very common and usually mean that there is something in your life that you’ve not acknowledged, that is causing stress... or fear.

But what about recurring dreams that actually predict the future? Not everyone has a precognitive dream, and despite what skeptics say, many people have experienced prophetic dreams that have predicted the future. These dreams are not forced or able to be controlled. They are a spontaneous occurrence.

They Shall Dream Dreams: Prophetic Dreams in the 21st Century, by Dianne Latham Ferguson with June Saunders, tells of her personal experience with prophetic dreams. Some that she’d had as a small child. One of them predicting 9/11 and other life-changing events in her life. Coincidence? No way!

No one can deny that our world today is in turmoil. Those of us who have lived for any length of time have seen things that we’ve never seen before. What does it all mean? What can we expect next? Have you ever asked yourself, “Where is God when I am hurting?” or “Why does God allow these things?”

Many of these questions are addressed in the powerful book, They Shall Dream Dreams: Prophetic Dreams in the 21st Century.

Read an excerpt:
I closed my eyes to rest. However, I saw that a wound had been revealed to me. It wanted to be healed. Facing this would be a challenge but I knew it would be transformational. I had to be a champion of my own life, my own health. I had to address the deeper issue of what had caused my disease. With many months or doctor’s appointments, a dramatic change in diet, rest in spirit, and loving support from my closest people, I began to move into a new space of gentle love for myself. I was getting exactly what I needed to shift into healing mode. Even my doctor looked my husband straight in the eye and said, “Do not give Shari ANY emotional stress until she gets better.” Within weeks I was served with divorce papers. My husband told me he knew I was weak so he offered to drive me there to sign them.

Soul Matters presents Dr. Jeanne-Rachel Salomon’s research into the millennia-old shamanic healing modality of Soul Retrieval. During actual shamanic healing sessions, Dr. Salomon utilized QEEG Brain Mapping and DFM blood work to monitor the body-mind system of both the client and herself. The scientific results of her work allow her to conclude that the fundamentals of the shamanic healing method are aligned with quantum principals and that the phenomenon of soul leaving and soul returning happens on the quantum-level of existence. The results of her study confirm the relevance of quantum physics’ tenets of non-locality, tangled hierarchy and discontinuity inside shamanic healing.

Mimadamos: The Eden of Choice by Chadi B. Ghaith

Welcome to the book blast for Mimadamos: The Eden of Choice by Chadi B. Ghaith, a spiritual fantasy, philosophical fiction read that you'll be sure to enjoy. Preview it with an excerpt. Leave comments and questions for the author and then follow the tour for more excerpts plus chances to win the giveaway.

Mimadamos: The Eden of Choice

Lebanese author Chadi B. Ghaith brings beliefs that were held in secrecy for a thousand years to awareness in Mimadamos: The Eden of Choice (Fifthscience Inc., July 5, 2017). Ghaith’s book revolves around an ancient triangle of the most significant characters on earth, paralleled by three of the most significant forces in life, and their combined story in space and time. Journey through this fable and explore the ideas that have mystified mankind for centuries: good and evil, heaven and hell, the beginning and end of the world.

Did the ending precede the beginning? Are we only here on earth to comprehend its machinations? Is there room for choice to shape our destiny in the wake of fate and its brutal logic? Mimadamos is a unique, philosophically-rich fantasy which journeys through the depths of conflict and harmony that we understand as the spirit. It decodes the magic of the most ancient scripts known to man, the symbolic fall from Eden and the long anticipated armageddon, revealing a logic so unique that it brings history to its conclusive end.

Read an excerpt:
The structure, simple at first, grew into a labyrinth of rooms and courtyards to accommodate the many functions Fate conceived as he went along, for his path was even then strewn with disorder and disarray.

When the construction was finally finished many years later, the home had turned into a
castle. Fate’s followers spent all their time within its walls, and, as directed by their leader, they ensured that no man or woman would reach the interior unless escorted by one of them. Indeed, the halls were bound with spells to prevent intruders from making progress.

Now, for the first time since settling there, Fate left the mountainous area and traveled to
the distant village of Mimadamos, a couple of days’ walk using his magic bridge across the

Valley of Doubt. There he and Destiny would take their vows, and after the festivities, Destiny would return with him to Demire to begin their new life.
At least, that was the plan.

Read an excerpt from Our Secret Powers by Terje G. Simonsen

Welcome to the blurb blitz for Our Secret Power by Terje G. Simonsen, a book about the history of the paranormal and its place in our real life. I have an excerpt and a giveaway for you today. If you follow the rest of the tour, you have more chances to win as you read the excerpts, a few reviews, and leave questions and comments for the author along the way.

Please note that affiliate links are present within this post. Should you make a purchase through one, I may earn a small commission at no additional cost to you.

Our Secret Powers

Is the paranormal normal?

Many readers will be surprised when learning that reputable scientists, among them several Nobel laureates, have claimed that telepathy is a reality. Their curiosity will increase when reading that Cleopatra’s lost palace and Richard III’s burial place were recovered by means of clairvoyance. And some will think it to be science fiction when finding out about Stargate—the espionage program where the American military and CIA engaged in the development of psychic spies!

Simonsen, a Norwegian historian of ideas, introduces an array of entertaining paranormal tales from history, archaeology, anthropology and psychology, and presents scientific research that has provided fascinating results. He argues that the stories we hear about telepathy, clairvoyance and precognition ought not to be dismissed as superstition

In step with spiritual and occult traditions, the author suggests that consciousness is not limited to our own head. Rather he thinks that all humans (and perhaps all living beings) are linked together in a “Mental Internet.’ Via this network we may exchange ‘telepathic emails’ with friends and family and make clairvoyant ‘downloads’ of information. Thus perhaps what we usually call ‘supernatural’ is completely natural but little understood communications via this Mental Internet?

Our Secret Powers gives us a engaged and entertaining analysis of a controversial subject and would make an excellent travel companion.

"Superb survey of the paranormal... Although serious in content, it is written in a light, often humorous, style which is a delight to read. As someone who has myself made a lifelong study of the paranormal, I cannot recommend it highly enough." ~ fantasy author, Herbie Brennan

"Simonsen describes his book as "A travelogue from the twilight zone,"but he is far too modest. Our Secret Powers is a sprawling work, meticulously researched, in which the author deftly, and with engaging wit, pulls together the various strands of "psi"--telepathy, clairvoyance, precognition, telekinesis, and healing--and presents them for our consideration." ~ Pulitzer-prize winner, Teresa Carpenter

Buy links

Read an excerpt:
Based on this idea, we launch a quite simple model, called the “Mental Internet.” The basic metaphor here is that somewhat in the way our computers are linked together via the Internet, the ‘consciousnesses’ of all humans, and perhaps all living beings, are linked together via some sort of Mental Internet. Consciousness, like the Internet, is—on some level—something that we are all doing together; it is networking. And telepathy is the communication that drives this network.

I therefore invite the reader to engage in a little thought experiment throughout the book: namely that an Internet Model of consciousness may have some relevance. Galileo once invited the Inquisition to look through his telescope in order to see what he himself had seen. But, as we know, the inquisitors were not very keen on having their horizons expanded and instead muttered murkily of ‘the work of the Devil.’ However, I take it for granted that the reader has a radically more open attitude than those darkened souls, and I am therefore confident that my invitation will be well received.

I find it intriguing to think that our everyday perception of Space and Time may, in some respects, be merely a mental frame, a habit. And therefore it might be possible to think outside the box in a more radical way. The proposed thought experiment about a Mental Internet allows for this, and telepathy can then be considered as the ‘emails’ sent and the ‘downloads’ made via this mental network. Many phenomena that otherwise would appear inexplicable will in light of this model fall quite nicely into place. More (much more) about this later!

About Terje G. Simonsen

Terje G. Simonsen is an author with a Ph.D. in the History of Ideas. He has increasingly focused his attention on the esoteric and occult traditions and on paranormal phenomena, as telepathy, clairvoyance, precognition, telekinesis, healing etc. Recently he published the highly acclaimed Our Secret Powers, based on his extraordinary knowledge within this field. Elegantly and with great personal wit and insight, he discusses parapsychological phenomena such as telepathy, clairvoyance, and precognition.

Simonsen has had his work praised by several of the world’s most renowned experts on the paranormal: The bestselling parapsychologist, Dean Radin, chief scientist at the Institute of Noetic Sciences, says: ‘As an encyclopedic introduction to the psychic side of the fascinating but puzzling domain known as the paranormal, there is no better choice than Our Secret Powers.” And Stanley Krippner, expert on hypnosis, shamanism and altered states of consciousness, former leader of two departments in the American Psychological Association, says: “This is an outstanding book and it deserves all the attention it can get. Not only is Our Secret Powers a book for all seasons, it is a book for all reasons!’”.

Review of Cloud Whispers by Sedona Hutton with Giveaway

Welcome to the review tour for Cloud Whispers by Sedona Hutton. It's a bunch of intertwined storylines that revolve around the concept of the Law of Attraction, while also nodding to religions. Some readers of this blog may find parts of this book to be a little racier than they normally would like. I say to you to just skip over those parts, because the underlying message is the important part of this story, and I think you will appreciate it. Keep on reading for more of my honest thoughts, as well as an excerpt from the story. Leave a question or comment for the author. And then follow the tour for even more excerpts and reviews, as well as opportunities to win the giveaway.

Please note that some of these links are affiliate links. Should you make a purchase through one, I may earn a small commission to help me support my websites, at no additional cost to you. I also received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Cloud Whispers

The daughter she gave away. The family she always wanted. The journey to redefine her fate.

Katie Callahan longs to start a family of her own. Infertile and unable to convince her relatives to accept the man she married, she regrets giving away the daughter from her secret teenage pregnancy. When a twist of fate brings a second chance at motherhood, she’s caught between joy and the fear of her husband’s rejection of another man’s child… until a devastating motorcycle accident rips the decision out of her hands.

With her body trapped in a coma, Katie finds herself in the dreamlike space between Earth and the afterlife. Guided by spiritual forces and the soul of her beloved dog, she learns the life-changing power of intention and self-transformation. From her ethereal vantage-point, she watches as her loved ones work together to connect the pieces of their broken hearts. As she finally realizes her true destiny, Katie's only chance to fulfill her purpose means completing an impossible journey back to life…

Cloud Whispers is a mind-expanding women’s fiction novel with a strong spiritual message. If you like headstrong heroines, heartwarming stories of family and forgiveness, and new age concepts, then you’ll love Sedona Hutton’s empowering tale.

Read an excerpt:
“Guides are assigned to humans at birth.” Posie sat cross-legged on the ground. Katie joined her, facing the dazzling view. “Black Eagle and I have been with you since the day you were born.”

“Wow.” She angled her head, wondering how it all worked. Her mind flashed back to her days in Belize, when she’d suspected she was pregnant. She’d been so scared, so alone. Her exchange mother had been kind, but Katie had only been with her for a month when she’d figured it out. She’d missed a few periods before she’d gone to Central America, but she’d chalked it up to stress after her boyfriend had broken up with her the day after they’d finally had sex. Her exchange father had been cool and distant, and her popular exchange sister hadn’t wanted anything to do with her. She’d managed to make a few friends on her own, but their friendships were new and delicate. Then, seemingly out of the blue, another exchange student had appeared in their small coastal town. She’d come from Sweden, with fair skin and long, shiny blonde hair, and had been the prettiest girl Katie had ever seen. She’d looked a lot like…Katie lifted her gaze to Posie. “You!”

Posie’s lips curved into a smile. “I thought you could use a friend.”

**My thoughts**
The blurb for this book really caught my attention. Being someone who also suffers from infertility issues, I am often drawn to those kinds of stories. I also really like those spiritual stories that truly have a good message and aren't beating you over the head with their ideas. So I wanted to give this one a shot.

I felt like I was reading a couple of different novels all rolled into one book. The parts where Katie is in the clouds, or transitional area, as she is trying to figure out if she is going to live or die actually reminded me a lot of a novel called White Night by my friend Kathi Haacke Morehead. The two have similar concepts of a being (or beings) in the Afterlife trying to help the person in transition understand what it is that is going on and how to better appreciate life on Earth. This part of the book really moved me. I am quite familiar with the Law of Attraction already. But something in the way it was presented here served as a reminder to start using it again.

Part of this story also revolves around Katie's love stories. There is the love that she and her husband Liam share. There is the love that she has for her daughter, whom she had to give up at birth, and for her stepdaughter whom she has been raising as her own for the past several years. And then there is the love between her and other members of her family. Her job is to figure out what she really wants from all of those relationships, as part of her life as a whole, and to manifest them into reality.

The other sort of mini novel within this spiritual one is a contemporary romance between Shane, Liam's brother, and Liz, Katie's sister. Even without Katie's story of soul searching, this story almost could have stood on its own. A lot of the time it worked. Sometimes it felt like it was starting to detract a bit from the spiritual message being put forth. And yet everyone's story needed to be told, as they were all unfolding within this family at the same time.

The only things I didn't like about this book were Liam lost too many people to death, and Shane was just a little too rich. Again, I understand their purpose in telling the story, but I would have connected to them a little bit more if those aspects were toned down a bit.

Other than that, I really had a hard time putting this book down and devoured it in one long evening. It really did make me stop and think about some things in my life. What you are going to get out of it is going to be personal to you, as the Law of Attraction always is.

The Six Principles of Enlightenment and Meaning of Life

Publisher: Espresso Wisdom
Published: March 2016

All enlightened beings, most founders of religions and many renowned scientists knew and understood the six principles of enlightenment. These universal truths have been written about, taught and discussed for thousands of years yet remain shrouded in mystery and misinterpretation. This book seeks to remove that shroud.

The Six Principles of Enlightenment and Meaning of Life is an intellectual and spiritual work that explains the six significant universal truths woven throughout science, religion and philosophy. These principles draw upon thousands of years of wisdom and are presented in a concise, accessible format. Each principle is defined and has an explanation on its application to life; they are further supported by quotes of wisdom from enlightened beings, philosophers, artists and scientists like Buddha, Albert Einstein, Rumi, Stephen Hawking and Jesus. Understanding the six principles then unlocks the meaning of life which is explained in the final chapter.

Thoughts: Meditations for Your Spiritual Walk by Brandon Champney

Thoughts: Meditations for Your Spiritual Walk

Join me on a spiritual journey as I share tidbits of thought on topics such as Faith, Hope, Love, Vision, Trust, Success, Spirit, Possibility in Thoughts, Meditations for Your Daily Spiritual Walk. We can all use insight and depth of understanding to feed our soul and spirit, helping us on whatever path to enlightenment we find ourselves. In a world which tries to deplete, on a daily basis, our spiritual reserves, it is good to fill oneself up. However, one can.

Each topic filled with helpful and encouraging insight lifts up and inspires, rejuvenating one's inner being with a fresh outlook on life. What does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? What price can we put on the needs we have as spiritual beings to transcend the seen to realms in which we soar on wings like eagles and plant our feet firmly on mountain tops.

Read an excerpt:
The change will come when your vision overshadows the force which keeps you from moving forward and changing. When the vision for your life is greater than your momentary desires, you will change. You have spent your life acting on your desires, make your vision, your desire, and you will act on it. The thing is to allow that vision to grow, to plant it within and water it. A vision for a better life, to see things new, to cast off the things which entangle.

The goal is to come to believe so firmly in the vision. Don't get down on yourself. Don't focus on the moment whether you happen to think you are doing well or not doing so good, set it aside. Keep building the vision within you and you will naturally and comfortably make the small changes which bring about significant changes. If you create the view for yourself, your actions will follow. You will increasingly not want to do things which jeopardize your vision. It is all a matter of time, it is inevitable, your desire will burn inside you. Fuel the flame and you will achieve what you believe. Don't look at where you are at the moment it doesn't matter, look rather to where you are going.

Nurture within you the best vision for your life; your mind can imagine. Imagine how it will feel to be on this journey. Make it increasingly clear within your mind's eye. Imagine how it will be to love and to be loved; to have joy and peace and real lasting happiness. To have self-control and determination, to not judge yourself or others, to have a real purpose and meaning in your life. To feel confident and truly believe in the things you hold dearest to your heart. To extinguish all the flaming darts life throws at you. To have a growing faith which shines. Dream; the universe is open to you.

Remember when you were a child, and you couldn't wait for the next day. When you woke, you jumped out of bed and ran to do the thing you wanted to do. Wouldn't it be great even to have a portion of it back into your life, where you look forward to where your life is going? Life can beat you down to the point you feel stuck. Where you feel nothing will ever change. Envision a new life, one in which the possibilities are endless, and you have it within you to grab hold of it and make it yours. Open your eyes wide, take a deep breath, watch the sunrise on a new day, smile, you will renew your strength. You will mount up with wings like eagles. You will run and not get tired; you will walk and not grow weary. Isaiah 40:31

Building a Noble World by Shiv R. Jhawar

Building a Noble World

Perfect love or bliss – that’s what everyone is seeking. Nobody has ever found it by seeking, because it is inside you, not outside. When the seeking is no more, you realize who you really are. Seek, and you will miss. Don’t seek, and discover your blissful innermost, authentic being. Unless you discover/bloom - bear fruits and flowers - you have not lived a meaningful life, the splendor of life. This discovery is the foundation of all religions. The book, Building a Noble World, is your trustworthy guide in your life journey to reach inner bliss and contentment.

Despite scientific and technological developments, most people today experience mental tension, unhappiness, and worries instead of experiencing peace of mind. What's the use of riches if one's mind is not at peace?

By using the ideas presented in Building a Noble World by Shiv R. Jhawar, you can experience greater peace of mind and begin to live a meaningful life. Just as with a road map or a guide, one can save oneself a lot of trouble, time, and confusion, so also it is with this book.

If you ever wonder about these four basic questions: Who am I, really? Where do I come from? Where will I go to? Why am I here?, then this book will truly lead you in the right direction. In these times when national, racial, religious, and personal prejudices are causing unrest, conflicts, and violence everywhere, Building a Noble World imparts right understanding and promotes universal love.

About Jordan Finneseth

Like many in the Millennial generation, I pursued higher education directly after high school, obtaining a bachelors and master’s degree in clinical/counseling psychology. During that time, I was also on my own journey of self discovery which really took off when I began meditating and developing myself spiritually. I studied numerous ancient and modern traditions and texts and came to the conclusion that each path was a person who once tried to describe their Enlightenment.

After working as a therapist for a few years, I focused on healing the body and obtained an associate’s degree in Medical Massage. Since that time I've studied various healing traditions - physical, mental, and energetic - to become an all-around healer and Spiritual Development Coach.

After investigating the best way to help people heal from anything, I've determined (as stated by many people before me) that the best way to heal another is to teach them to heal themselves. Our minds, bodies, and the energy that infuses them are capable of extraordinary things, we just need to learn to harness that capability.

Manual for the Soul: A Beginner’s Guide is my introductory book of what will become a series of Manuals taking ancient, complex ideas and bringing them forward into this new millennium. My goal is simple: To give people back their spiritual power which has been veiled from their sight for too long. Collectively we hold the power to change the world, and it starts with the Awareness of this fact.
